Team 6 is an archaeology team comprised of an environmentalist, a designer, a machinist, a physicist, and a cultural anthropologist. As a team, we are trying to understand the life and culture of the 2000's. We will do this by researching and dissecting a hand vacuum, modeling one of the functions of it using math
and science, developing the life-cycle of the vacuum, understanding the manufacturing involved in that product, and redesigning it for a family in Japan.

Al-Sumait Nasser  - Environmentalist
  • I'm a 63 year old man who has been living in this city since I was a child.I love nature and committed to the environment. I will just about do anything to make our country a beautiful place. I'm really concerned about our consumerism culture and I want all engineers to think about what they build and how those products will impact the environment.

Abouhafs Naim - designer

  • I am 38 years old and I feel the I can learn so many things about society and culture by looking at products that were developed. I'm doing really a great job at recognizing what people need and then I tried to create something to fit that need which usually works out to be a perfect fit. I'm always very user-centered and I'm very talented at designing products that people always love using them.

 Larson Brandon - machinist

  • I'm 50 year old machinist working in Mesa. I do not have any engineering degree, but I'm very confident in my expertise as I have been working as a machinist for over 30 years. I can know how a product was manufactured and assembled by just looking on it. I can give many ideas that help a product to be improved.

Marques Brandon - physicist

  • I'm a 35 year old physicist and more than one of my friends have compared me to Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. I'm really disappointed at the level of math and science used in design projects. Sometimes engineers just use trial and error to come up with a design when they could use math and science to really optimize the design. I love finding mathematical models that very closely model the behavior of products and pride myself on how well I can predict behaviors with theoretical models.

Walid Khan & Yang Jung-Rok - anthropologist

  • Walid Khan and Yang Jung-Rok are both responsible for looking at a cultural view of the design. They are 35 year old ASU professor and both of them have been living in Japan for several years, so they already have experience of Japan Culture. They really wish every ASU student would engage in a program like engineers without borders so that they can begin to understand the similarities and differences in cultures throughout the world.
